Translating and publishing French theatre in China

چکیده

This article examines transformations in the literary translation environment People’s Republic of China (PRC) specifically relation to French-language theatre. After an initial survey PRC from its foundation present, studies how plays have been translated and adapted for publication. In particular, it considers French theatre has occupied a favoured position Chinese system over past four decades. It then focuses on three emblematic cases, those Molière, Jean-Paul Sartre, Samuel Beckett. Regarding latter, two translations En attendant Godot/Waiting Godot will be examined determine contextual factors affected choices. this way, seeks both contribute current discussions ‘translatability’ consider reception canonical writers system.
